Right to make a better alternative
One of the popular defenses for piracy is that companies are not making it fair to buy their movies and software, and at the same time, digital goods are virtually infinite after their creation.
But another way to look at it is that some things are just not for sale. If I have a journal, I can choose who reads it. I won't let you read it even though it will cost me nothing1.
I'm not advocating for anything. People do what they want, and I don't have a problem. I just lean more on the latter, and I haven't heard of this perspective in this context before.
